An Express Rakyat (Singappore-Butterworth) train went off the rails about 100 metres from the Bukit Timah station in Singapore at 8.17am today causing Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad’s (KTMB) inter-city services in the south to be disrupted.
The train was carrying 60 passengers had left the Tanjong Pagar station in Singapore at 8am. No casualties were reported.
“The passengers were brought back to the Tanjong Pagar station Singapore and given a full refund,” KTMB said in a statement here.
The statement said following the incident, the Express Rakyat service from Singapore had temporarily been cancelled while for the Butterworth to Singapore service of the same and Express Senandung (Kuala Lumpur-Singapore) would end their journeys at the JB Sentral station in Johor Baharu.
The statement added that until further notice, other services originating from Singapore like the Ekspress Senandung Sutera and Ekspress Sinaran Selatan and those to the east coast of the peninsula would now commence their journeys from the JB sentral and also end at it in the opposite direction.
According to the statement, the situation is expected to be rectified by morning tomorrow.
It added that passengers who have already booked tickets can claim refunds or reschedule their journey dates.

In SINGAPORE, checks by Bernama found workers already repairing damaged tracks while waiting for a heavy-duty crane to arrive from Gemas to lift the locomotive, which is in a tilted position off the tracks.
