GM Klang Wholesale Center has collaborated with the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies (FKPM) at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) to enliven the Special Charity Sale in conjunction with the Riooh Raya 2023 Campaign.
Nearly 40 students from FKPM have been assigned to sell items provided by GM Klang with special offers to visitors.
Norsuhaida Othman, Senior Brand Communications Manager at GM Klang, said visitors have the opportunity to get a variety of Hari Raya Aidilfitri preparations at 19 booths opened in the spacious area on the ground floor of the complex from April 7 to 9.
“GM Klang usually plans to hold corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs during Ramadan. Through this charity sale, items are sold at special prices and attractive promotions that cannot be purchased at the store itself. For example, an item that may cost RM20 in the store may be sold for only RM10 here.
“Moreover, a portion of the sales over these three days will be donated to selected charities,” she said when interviewed by Sinar Harian on Friday. According to Norsuhaida, in addition to allowing visitors to buy Raya items at cheaper prices, the collaboration between GM Klang and UiTM also aims to provide exposure to students about the process of running a business, making promotions and communicating with customers.
“What is important is that we want to give them the experience of handling a business from the ground up, how to approach customers properly and so on.
“Traders are also generous in helping and sharing trading strategies with students, so they can also learn from experienced individuals in this field,” she explained.
GM Klang provides exposure to students
Meanwhile, Senior Lecturer at FKPM, Dr Shifa Faizal, said the participation of students in the charity sale can help develop their interpersonal skills. She said students also have the opportunity to train themselves by seeing how the business system works as a whole.
“It involves not only advertising but also marketing, where we train students to understand the market and produce products that are relevant to the target audience.
“This is because students are usually trained to do advertising during lectures, but when they get to the field like this, they only then see the actual process,” she added.
“She informed me that UiTM and GM Klang have long collaborated, but this program is quite special because it involves fundraising for charities during this holy month.
“We not only want to apply the knowledge taught at the university to young people but also educate them in terms of morals and manners.
“So when given the opportunity to participate in such a program, they will feel that life is not just about having fun, but also about thinking about our contributions to society,” she said.
