Mitra allocates RM20 mil for B40 Indian students

The Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra) has announced RM 20 million allocations for its bachelor’s degree tuition assistance subsidy programme for B40 Indian students in public universities.

This aid is especially for 10,000 students from the second to fourth year, who will receive a one-off RM2,000 subsidy aid before the start of the new semester in September or October.

Applicants can apply through the Mitra website www.mitra.gov.my from 2 pm this May till September 15. The subsidy will be deposited into the Bank Simpanan Nasional account of qualified students.

Mitra early education subsidy programme

In addition to the tuition assistance subsidy programme, Mitra has also introduced the Early Education Subsidy programme for Private Kindergartens (Tamil) registered with the Education Ministry.

This programme has an allocation of RM10.89 million to reduce the number of B40 Indian children being left behind in early education. The target is to reach 4,500 recipients, and each child will receive a monthly subsidy of RM200 for a year to cover fees and breakfast.

Applications can be made at the Mitra website until May 28, and the subsidy will be paid directly to kindergarten operators.

Dialysis aid subsidy programme

Mitra has allocated RM8.64 million for its dialysis aid subsidy programme for 900 chronic kidney disease patients. The subsidy will cover the cost of one session per week for a year, and qualified patients will receive RM200 in subsidies.

Applications can be made between May 8 till August 30 on the Mitra website.

Mitra aims to ensure transparency and accountability in its financial grant programmes by involving officers from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Integrity Department in every Mitra meeting.

All financial grant recipients’ names will be displayed on the official website, and the committee will monitor their finances to ensure that the funds are being used for their intended purposes. Mitra’s financial grants programme has been extended until May 28, and 1,227 applications have been received till now.
