Radiohead fans have something to look forward to as the much-awaited “True Love Waits: A Radiohead Tribute” will finally hit the stage at YSDAF 2023. The pre-festival highlight will take place from 10th to 13th August at klpac’s Pentas 2.
Led by Ian Chow, a renowned director and music director, along with his talented team including Mak Chi Hoe and Kenny Shim, this ground-breaking tribute promises an extraordinary multi-sensorial experience.

A Long-Awaited Tribute: The journey behind “True Love Waits”
Ian Chow and his team embarked on this ambitious project in January 2020, with the original plan to premiere in August the same year. However, the pandemic disrupted their plans, leading to multiple setbacks, including changes in the creative team and cast.
After facing countless obstacles, Chow’s team remained committed to their vision, adapting and rehearsing whenever possible. Their unwavering dedication and collaboration have brought them to this momentous occasion, where the “True Love Waits” tribute is finally ready to take the stage.
Chow explained “We started rehearsing in January 2020 thinking we would premiere it in August that year at YSDAF but the pandemic changed everything.
We re-started not once, not twice but three times, rehearsing when we could while dealing with creative team members and almost 70% of the cast leaving, some migrating while others moving on to other projects.
It was creatively exhausting and frustrating to keep things going for three years but thanks to a great team, here we are, finally ready for audiences.”
Exploring Radiohead’s legacy
“True Love Waits: A Radiohead Tribute” is a musical journey that celebrates the extraordinary legacy of Radiohead, one of the greatest bands of all time. The performance will feature iconic singles that made it to the UK’s Single Chart top 10, including their debut single “Creep.”
The tribute will also delve into albums such as “OK Computer,” which marked their breakthrough to mainstream success and earned them a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Album. Additionally, audiences will experience their minimalist album “Kid A,” “Hail to the Thief,” and their latest offering, “A Moon Shaped Pool,” which includes “True Love Waits.”
The tribute will be a collaborative spectacle, blending the powerful harmonies of The Young KL Singers, arranged by Dr. Tracy Wong, with the musical talents of cellist Eugene Chong, electric guitarist Daniel Lee, and loop programmer Ian Francis Khoo. The Kenny Shim Dance Collective will add depth and narrative through their masterful dance performances under Kenny Shim’s guidance.
Contributing to the immersive experience is multimedia designer Wee Jia Foong, who will employ LED light installations and multimedia design to create stunning visuals that complement the music and dance.
Unlike conventional concerts, “True Love Waits” offers a surreal and interactive experience. The unique freestanding concert setup places the audience on a U-shaped stage, surrounded by performers. Audiences are free to move around and witness the performance from different angles, making each experience truly one-of-a-kind.
