The recent relocation of Uptown Pahlawan Walk to the Vehicle Free Zone has resulted in a positive economic impact, bringing prosperity to local small and medium-sized businesses in Melaka.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Utama Ab Rauf Yusoh highlighted the success of this move, stating that the area, once concealed, has now become a vibrant hub attracting around 15,000 visitors, including tourists, on weekends alone.

The relocation decision, placing traders prominently in front of the Taming Sari Tower, has proven to be a boon for local traders and hawkers.
Ab Rauf expressed gratitude from traders for the state government’s initiative, stating, “So, the economic sub-sector resulting from this relocation has indeed generated good income for traders and hawkers.”
He further highlighted the positive impact on small and medium-sized businesses, especially with the ongoing Year of Visit Melaka 2024 (TMM2024) initiative.
This strategic move has successfully positioned these businesses to benefit from the influx of tourists and visitors to the state.

After touring Uptown Pahlawan Walk and interacting with traders, Ab Rauf reiterated the commitment to gather feedback from traders and relevant parties.
He mentioned that evaluations for each feedback or suggestion would be conducted every three months. The move signifies the government’s dedication to ensuring the continued success and improvement of the Vehicle Free Zone for local businesses.
Ab Rauf said, “Therefore, with the Year of Visit Melaka 2024 (TMM2024), this new idea has successfully highlighted small and medium-sized businesses seeking sustenance from the arrival of tourists and visitors to the state.”
