Batu MP P. Prabakaran steers Mitra forward. Appointed Chairman of Special Committee, he leads efforts to enhance Indian community’s socio-economic status.

Batu MP P. Prabakaran has assumed the role of Chairman of the Malaysian Indian Community Transformation Unit (Mitra) Special Committee, succeeding Datuk R Ramanan.

The appointment, effective immediately, aims to ensure Mitra’s continued commitment to uplifting the socio-economic status of the Indian community.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced Prabakaran’s appointment, highlighting the need for seamless continuity in Mitra’s efforts.

Prabakaran’s tenure replaces Datuk R. Ramanan, who now serves as the Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister.

The PMO expressed confidence in Prabakaran’s ability to lead Mitra effectively

Mitra, previously known as the Socioeconomic Development of the Indian Community Unit (SEDIC), was initially under the National Unity Ministry.

Mitra focuses on welfare & inclusivity

Ramanan, in a statement reported by Bernama, outlined Mitra’s renewed focus on enhancing its image and implementing impactful programmes for community welfare.

He emphasised Mitra’s dedication to addressing past challenges and highlighted the organisation’s achievement of a “low-risk” rating from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Last month, Ramanan announced that Mitra has achieved 100 per cent of its targets this year, a historic milestone which reflects its accountability and effective resource utilisation.

Ramanan added that this success has laid a solid foundation for the unit’s managements for years to come regardless of whoever takes over its leadership in the future.\

He also emphasised Mitra’s unwavering commitment to elevating the B40 Indian community through education and creation of high-paying job opportunities, envisioning a community poised for future success.

“The enhancement and advancement of the B40 Indian community in this nation are of utmost importance, and Mitra must persist in its endeavours to empower them.”

Prabakaran’s appointment signals a new chapter for Mitra under his leadership. With a focus on community empowerment and transparent governance, Mitra aims to strengthen its role in advancing the welfare of the Malaysian Indian community.

As the organisation moves forward, it remains committed to fostering positive socio-economic transformation and inclusivity.
