Malaysia Airlines has issued updates regarding flight operations impacted by the recent eruptions of Mount Ruang volcano.
The airline confirmed the reinstatement and rescheduling of some flights while announcing cancellations on specific routes.
Malaysia Airlines flights adjustment
In a positive development, Malaysia Airlines announced the resumption of services between Kuala Lumpur and Sabah, effective May 1st, 2024.
These flights will operate with adjusted timings: MH2660D (previously MH2660) departing Kuala Lumpur for Tawau and MH2661D (previously MH2661) returning from Tawau to Kuala Lumpur.
Additionally, the airline plans to adjust the timings of flights MH2608 and MH2609 operating between Kuala Lumpur and Labuan on the same day.
Flight cancellations and passenger support
However, the airline has also announced the indefinite suspension of flights to and from several destinations due to safety concerns. These include Sandakan, Miri, and Sibu.
Passengers booked on the affected flights, including MH2710, MH2711, MH2668, MH2669, MH2594, MH2593, MH2574, MH2575, MH2716, and MH2715, will be contacted by the airline.
Understanding the inconvenience caused by the cancellations, Malaysia Airlines is offering impacted passengers a one-time free itinerary change or a full refund, regardless of their original fare type.
While some flights are resuming and adjustments are being made, the full impact of the volcanic eruptions on Malaysia Airlines’ schedule is yet to be determined.
Passengers are advised to monitor the airline’s website and social media channels for the latest updates and to contact Malaysia Airlines directly for assistance with their travel plans.
