World Vision is calling for urgent support to raise USD 5 million (around RM21 million) to assist vulnerable communities affected by the ongoing conflict in Lebanon.
Since mid-September 2024, the country has seen a sharp escalation in violence, leading to widespread devastation, particularly for children and families.
The humanitarian organisation’s efforts aim to bring lifesaving aid to the hardest-hit areas.
The violence has left over 2,000 dead, including at least 127 children, and nearly 9,400 injured.
More than 1 million people have been displaced, with many forced into temporary shelters that lack essential resources, such as hygiene supplies and protection measures.
“The situation is critical, and the fast-approaching winter makes it even more urgent,” World Vision emphasised.
World Vision’s efforts in Lebanon
World Vision has been actively providing assistance on the ground, offering food, hygiene kits, and protection services to those most in need.
The escalating conflict has put a strain on the organisation’s operations, particularly in the regions where over 12,000 children are affected.
Most child-related activities have paused, though vital humanitarian efforts continue.
Many schools in the region have been converted into makeshift shelters for over 155,600 people, half of whom are women and children.
The shelters, however, are severely under-resourced, lacking basic necessities like hygiene facilities and safe living conditions.
To address these pressing issues, World Vision is focusing on delivering immediate relief, such as fuel, food, and hygiene kits to displaced families.
How Malaysians can help
World Vision is urging Malaysians to support their Middle East Crisis Response for Lebanon. Contributions, big or small, can make a substantial difference.
Donations will help provide:
- RM120: A hygiene kit for a family of five for one month
- RM290: Nutritious hot meals for one beneficiary for one month
- RM290: 12 psychosocial support sessions for a child
- RM990: Fuel for three families of five for one month during winter
- RM8,260: Electricity at night for one collective shelter for one month
World Vision remains committed to delivering essential aid as the crisis unfolds and is encouraging those who are able to contribute.
“By giving, we are offering hope to the millions affected by conflict in Lebanon,” the organisation stated.
As Lebanon grapples with the devastating effects of violence, World Vision is spearheading a humanitarian response aimed at bringing relief to those most affected. Every contribution helps provide essential aid to displaced families struggling to survive the crisis.
