Yayasan MR D.I.Y. spreads festive cheer with ‘Ular-lar’ initiative

Yayasan MR D.I.Y.’s ‘Ular-lar’ initiative brings festive joy to 14 homes nationwide, benefiting 700 individuals with care boxes, games, and donations.

Every festive season, Yayasan MR D.I.Y. takes proactive steps to ensure that residents of charitable homes and care centres across Malaysia do not miss out on celebrations. This Chinese New Year, the foundation continued its tradition by rolling out the heartwarming ‘Ular-lar’ initiative, bringing joy and festive spirit to the less fortunate.

The initiative saw volunteers delivering specially curated ‘Ular-lar’ care boxes to 14 homes nationwide, benefiting nearly 700 individuals. The selected homes comprised orphanages, senior citizen homes, and centres catering to individuals with disabilities. Each care box contained Chinese New Year goodies and essential everyday items, ensuring that residents could celebrate the occasion in comfort and joy.

Festivities at Yayasan Sunbeams Home

One of the highlights of the initiative took place at Yayasan Sunbeams Home, an orphanage in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur. The team from Yayasan MR D.I.Y. filled the home with excitement and celebration, organizing engaging games and performing MR D.I.Y.’s signature CNY ‘Ular-lar’ dance with the residents. Volunteers also helped decorate the home, enhancing the festive atmosphere.

A traditional ‘Lou Sang’ session was also arranged, a symbolic act of unity and prosperity in Chinese culture. Adding to the festive generosity, MR D.I.Y.’s Group Vice President of Marketing, Alex Goh, presented the home with RM3,000 in MR D.I.Y. cash vouchers. The vouchers enable the home to purchase necessary household and personal care items, ensuring sustainability beyond the celebrations.

A Commitment to Inclusivity and Joy

Commenting on the initiative, Yayasan MR D.I.Y. Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Zaleha Mohd Mydin, emphasized the foundation’s dedication to fostering inclusivity during festive seasons.

“Chinese New Year is all about reuniting with family, friends, and loved ones; however, not everyone has the opportunity to experience that. At Yayasan MR D.I.Y., our mission is to ensure no one is left out of the festivities,” she said.
