Hong Kong artist Sim Chan unveils interactive miniature exhibition

Hong Kong artist Sim Chan brings The Infinite-land to Kuala Lumpur, featuring 15 miniature artworks inspired by Malaysian life and everyday culture.

Hong Kong artist Sim Chan will bring his miniature art exhibition, The Infinite-land, to Kuala Lumpur in November, offering visitors an interactive experience that explores everyday life through miniature installations, mechanical structures and mirrored spaces.

Running from Nov 6, 2026, to Jan 24, 2027, the exhibition will be presented at Galeri Filamen on Level 4 of GMBB Kuala Lumpur. Curated by Kobe Ko, it features 15 artworks that draw inspiration from familiar objects, urban routines and contemporary culture.

The exhibition reimagines ordinary experiences as attractions in an unconventional miniature theme park. Visitors can peer into a Milo box to discover miniature figures playing badminton, encounter a floating durian emerging from a capsule machine, and explore installations that use mirrors to create the illusion of endless spaces.

The Kuala Lumpur edition also incorporates elements of Malaysian life, including everyday habits, festivals and familiar objects. A new live projection work developed through a collaboration between Sim and Filamen will incorporate visitors into the exhibition, making their presence part of the artwork.

Miniature installations explore everyday life

In The Infinite-land, each artwork functions as an individual attraction while contributing to a larger, interconnected environment. Visitors are encouraged to look through small openings, observe miniature figures in recognisable situations and interact with selected installations.

The project was first presented in Tainan, Taiwan, in 2024 before making its Malaysian debut at Blank Canvas in Penang in 2025. According to the organisers, the Tainan exhibition attracted queues outside its compact venue, while the Penang presentation was extended beyond its original closing date.

The Kuala Lumpur presentation marks the exhibition’s third iteration, with Sim adapting the concept to reflect another city’s everyday surroundings and cultural character.

Born and based in Hong Kong, Sim works across painting, sculpture and mixed media. His practice explores urban environments, human behaviour and contemporary issues through miniature models, lighting, mechanical structures, found materials and mirrors.

His mirrored installations transform physically small spaces into seemingly expansive environments, inviting visitors to examine details that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Exhibition details and visitor information

The exhibition is presented by Filamen in partnership with Blank Canvas, with support from Yayasan TM, Digital Tech Incubator (DTI), CloudJoi, GMBB and RUBIX.
