JB City Square revamp adds kids’ park and 300+ shops by 2027

JB City Square is midway through a revamp. It will add a kids’ adventure park, a wellness hub and more than 300 shops.

The mall stays open throughout. Owner Allgreen Group expects the works to finish in the fourth quarter of 2027. Hotel apartments above the mall follow in the second quarter of 2028.

What the JB City Square revamp will add

Retail space will grow from 547,076 sq ft to 568,927 sq ft. The mall plans more than 300 retailers across themed floors. Allgreen Group calls it a multi-phase asset enhancement initiative.

The floors will cover fashion and athleisure, home and hobbies, and international fashion and cosmetics. Retail categories include wellness, lifestyle, technology and experiential leisure. The mall also plans more anchor tenants, though none are named.

In addition, the mall plans a 15,000 sq ft Kids Adventure Park. Operators and details have not been announced.

A 41,300 sq ft Health and Wellness Hub will focus on holistic living. The mall also plans large event spaces and new food precincts. Hotel apartments will sit above the existing mall.

The facade facing Jalan Tun Abdul Razak will get a refresh. That is the side travellers see from the Causeway. Sustainability upgrades include energy-efficient cooling and better waste management.

What is open during the works

The mall remains fully operational during the upgrade. Shoppers can check the store directory before they visit.

In April, a mall video showed scaffolding in the atrium and boarded-up upper floors. Uniqlo and KyoChon put up notices saying their closures are temporary.

The car park opens from 7am to 2am, the mall told shoppers. One travel blog reported a flat rate of RM2 an hour in September.

The mall sits minutes from the customs and immigration checkpoint. Another JB option, SKS City Mall JBCC, has 32 eateries nearby.

However, some floors remain shut for works. Check opening hours and store status before you go.

The September blog listed Din Tai Fung, Padini, H&M, Decathlon and Guardian among the stores still trading. It gave hours of 10am to 10pm daily. It also said Oriental Kopi closed temporarily, while Laser Battle moved to R&F Mall.

Timeline and the RTS Link

The upgrade at JB City Square started in November 2025 and runs to the fourth quarter of 2027. Allgreen Group managing director Tho Leong Chye called the mall a favourite for local shoppers and cross-border travellers.

Tho said the owner is investing in new brands and experiences. He wants the mall to stay the heart of retail, leisure and lifestyle for generations.

The RTS Link to Singapore is due to open in early 2027. The mall will then sit close to a busier border corridor.

Meanwhile, the government approved a RM60 million link bridge from Bukit Chagar station to JB Sentral. It will take about 12 months to build. The blog also mentioned a planned 400-metre covered walkway to the mall.

In addition, Budget 2027 backs e-ART and buses to ease Johor Bahru traffic.
