Selangor: Kuala Selangor holds most

Kuala Selangor has the most evacuees. Kuala Selangor alone holds 977 of the 1,318 total, or about 74%. Five relief centres hold 977 people from 261 families there. Shah Alam has three centres with 153 people, while Klang has one with 76 people.

These figures come from the Social Welfare Department (JKM) portal. As a result, they can change through the day as people move in or out.

On Friday afternoon, the largest centre was Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Desa Aman in Kuala Selangor, according to Bernama. It held 637 people from 153 families.

In Shah Alam, Sekolah Kebangsaan Merbau Sempak had 83 people. Dewan Kenanga at the Petaling District and Land Office in Section U5 had 51. Dewan Siantan in Kampung Melayu Subang had 50, and that is where a resident waded through floodwater earlier this week. Dewan Seri Pagi in Kampung Paya Jaras had 15.

In Klang, Dewan Masjid Al-Taqwa in Bukit Kapar held 48 people from 39 families.

Perak: Hilir Perak relief centres open

Perak’s evacuees come from Hilir Perak. The state disaster committee said families have been sheltering at a hall in Langkap since 10am on Friday. It is Dewan Majlis Perbandaran Teluk Intan. They are from Kampung Batu 8, Batu 9 and Batu 7½ in Changkat Jong.

In addition, residents of Kampung Batu 11½ on Jalan Bidor have also moved out. The floods hit the area on Thursday night, Bernama reported.

The number in Perak has grown. On Friday afternoon, 83 people were in shelters there. By 9.30am today, the figure was 112. Perak also flooded earlier, as a previous report shows.

How the numbers have moved

However, the totals have risen overnight. At 7.30am today, about 1,252 people from 335 families were in 10 centres. Two hours later, the figure was 1,318 from 351 families in 11 centres.

Still, Selangor’s numbers had dipped on Friday. They fell from 1,253 in the morning to 1,160 in the afternoon, from 338 families. However, they rose again overnight to 1,206.

Meanwhile, heavy rain has hit the Klang Valley in recent days. Flash floods hit Puncak Alam homes and UiTM, and MetMalaysia issued a warning for drivers.

The reports do not mention casualties, river levels or new weather warnings. So the situation may change quickly. Residents in flood-prone areas should follow updates from local authorities.

In short, flood evacuees in the two states have passed 1,300, and Perak has joined Selangor in the affected list. Therefore, the figures will change as JKM updates its portal during the day.
