The Selangor government wants the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) and Konsortium Transnasional Berhad (KTB) to hold discussions and find ways to resume the operations of the City Liner bus services in the state.
Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said the discussions were important as about 80,000 commuters in Selangor would be affected following the consortium’s move to suspend the service starting yesterday.
“We hope that SPAD and KTB will resolve this matter as soon as possible as we will discuss with SPAD to find alternative solutions if the problem cannot be resolved,” he said in a statement.
Abdul Khalid said the state government would be looking at the key issues of this problem involving the cross-subsidisation mechanism (cross-subsidy) given by the government to KTB.
KTB executive director Tengku Hasmadi Tengku Hashim had said that his company would only resume its City Liner services if the state government offers it a “lifeline”.
He said the losses incurred by KTB, the largest operator of public bus transportation in the country, were too massive for it to continue.
