Forty-seven of 141 government hospitals nationwide have obtained certificates of accreditation from the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH).
Health director-general Dr Hasan Abdul Rahman said six more hospitals were awaiting certification by MSQH.
“This is a meaningful achievement for the ministry in its mission to give priority to the needs of the people by giving the best service in medical and health treatment to patients and customers,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters after presenting accreditation certificates to Kedah’s state hospitals at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital yesterday.
Dr Hasan said the award was a recognition of staff commitment on their efforts to practise quality management system and service assurance which met high international standards.
“I am satisfied with Kedah’s achievement as seven out of nine hospitals in the state hold three-year certification while the certification of Jitra and Baling hospitals have expired,” he added.
Dr Hassan said the certificates were important as patients wanted transparency in treatment and also wished to participate in decision-making of the treatment by medical practitioners.
