Padiberas Nasional Berhad (BERNAS) has made available 1,300 bags of rice for flood victims in the state, Bernas general manager (national rice business sector) Amiruddin Ahmad Tajuddin said yesterday.
He said part of the aid was provided to the flood victims throughout the state since the floods hit last week.
Speaking to Bernama after handing over aid, including 300 bags of rice, to flood victims in Kampung Bendang Pak Yong and Telok Jering yesterday, Amiruddin said that for the whole of last year, the government had made available 21,000 bags of rice valued at about RM250,000.
“Last year, more than 90 per cent of the assistance was provided to the flood victims in Kedah as the state was the hardest hit,” he said.
Besides rice, other foodstuff such as biscuits, bread, sardines, sugar and instant noodles were also given to the victims.
He said Bernas had provided the list of its agents statewide to facilitate immediate supply when required by the flood relief committees.
