All members of the Malaysian Armed Forces will stay in quarters at their respective camps by the year 2020 after the armed forces house construction projects are fully completed.
Deputy Defence Minister Dr Abdul Latif Ahmad said the project had started and would be implemented in stages.
“We have scheduled programmes to ensure that all military personnel stay in quarters in their respective camp compounds which have been provided with basic amenities such as schools, surau and so on,” he said when winding up the debate on the Supply Bill 2012 at the committee stage for the ministry at the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
He said this was also to ensure that the welfare of military personnel was safeguarded.
On the direction of the volunteer brigade of the National Service (NS) Training Programme which would be set up as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak previously, Abdul Latif said a paper on the matter would be tabled next month.
“Barring unforseen circumstances, 500,000 former NS trainees will carry out various tasks voluntarily to provide assistance during natural disasters, floods, landslides or fire and undertake various voluntary works,” he said.
