Nine-year-old attacked by pack of dogs

A nine year old boy’s right ear was almost severed after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs in Kampung Panti, Kota Tinggi on April 3.

The victim, Muhammad Rafiq Abdul Rashid, was given thirty stitches and is now recuperating in the hospital.

The incident happened at about 3pm while he and his twin brother Muhammad Rafie were playing outside the house compound when suddenly four dogs chased them.

Muhammad Rafiq ran but fell and was attacked by one of the dogs while his twin brother Muhammad Rafie managed to escape from the pursuing dogs.

The victim’s father, Abdul Rashid Ibrahim, 55, said he was shocked when informed about the incident. He was away in Malacca at the time and had rushed home when he heard the news. He is thankful that both his sons are safe, he said.

The victim’s mother, Rafiah Omar, said that she and her other children were watching television when the incident happened.

She was informed by her neighbour about the incident and she rushed out to find his son Muhammad Rafiq crying and groaning in pain.

She said besides the almost severed right ear, Muhammad Rafiq also suffered multiple scratches on his forehead, shoulder and thigh.

Komunitikini was told that prior to this incident, a similar case happened but the victim was a goat belonging to a neighbour which was attacked and killed by the same pack of dogs.

The victim’s elder brother, Mohd Shahril Abdul Rashid, 23, lodged a police report on the incident at the police station.

Meanwhile, the Kota Tinggi deputy OCPD, Muhamad Shamsudin confirmed receiving the report and said that the police is now investigating the case.
