Pageant finalists decorate teddy bears for breast cancer awareness

PETALING JAYA – The pink ribbon is an international symbol of breast cancer awareness and October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month marked in countries across the world.

All 29 finalists of this year’s Miss Cosmopolitan World 2018 gathered at the Pink Ribbon Charity Event to decorate teddy bears for a charitable cause.

At the event, held on 7 October 2018 at 3 Damansara mall, Petaling Jaya, each of the contestants was given a teddy bear and they used their creativity to adorn their cuddly toys with embellishments such as clothes, ribbons, bows, sewing thread, beads and buttons, bias tape and other items.

The pink ribbon is an international symbol of breast cancer awareness and October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month marked in countries across the world.

Miss Cosmopolitan World founder and organiser Amelia Liew said she was proud of the girls for doing some important work for society.

“We are very proud the girls have shown great spirit being charitable towards others. They are decorating the teddy bears to raise funds for a worthy cause.

“The decorated teddies will be auctioned at an invitation-only charity auction on 17 October 2018 and all proceeds will go to a charity close to many people’s hearts, the Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA),” she said.

BCWA is a charity that provides peer support to women with breast cancer in Malaysia.

Past and reigning champions – Miss Cosmopolitan World 2016 Veronika Markova from Russia and Miss Cosmopolitan World 2017 Sheryltha Pratyscha from Indonesia were also present to join the beauties in supporting the charitable cause.

The fourth edition of the grand final of Miss Cosmopolitan World 2018 will be held on 19 October 2018 at One World Hotel in Petaling Jaya.

Miss Cosmopolitan World is a home-grown success story of an international Malaysia brand that has made it big pushing the country into the global limelight through the entrepreneur skills and hard work of Amelia Liew, the brainchild behind the pageant’s phenomenal success.

The pageant has received the support from Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and various tourism boards, including Penang Tourism, Tourism Perak Malaysia and Tourism Selangor.
