STYLO International officially recently opened STYLO Academy with the introduction one of the world’s prominent personality-development and finishing school curriculum, John Robert Powers.
The STYLO Academy which was launched in March this year by Seri Paduka Baginda Raja Permaisuri Agung Tuanku Nur Zahirah, will bring to Malaysian soil a world-renowned personality-development programme which has been credited with helping to enhance the image and personalities of some of the most iconic personalities in the world. Witnessing the launch event was H.E. Paul W. Jones, Ambassador of the United States to Malaysia.
John Robert Powers was a struggling Hollywood actor when he set up the first-ever modelling school in New York City in 1923. The ‘Powers Walk’ soon came to define what was classified as modern-day modelling. Not long after that, Powers introduced a new product which incorporated all the important components of a typical Swiss finishing-school curriculum and the much-needed personality-development programme which included his own personal acting experiences; he called this programme ‘LIFE’. ‘LIFE’ education took America by storm and post-World War 2 saw John Robert Powers become a household name. Hollywood paid tribute to one of their own by creating a movie based on his life; which was aptly titled after him.
The John Robert Powers programme is jointly bought to Malaysia by STYLO International and Lumina-Looque Learning Hub Pte Ltd. The collaboration which involves 3 countries; Malaysia, Singapore and China sees Dato’ Nancy Yeoh as President and International Director of John Robert Powers Malaysia with Calvin Cheng, a nominated MP of Singapore as the President of John Robert Powers Singapore and China. Cheng is also credited with bringing in NTUC, the National Trade Union Congress under Singapore’s Ministry of Labour as partner to John Robert Powers Singapore. NTUC is also Singapore’s biggest training centre.
The launch event held in Bangsar Village II was attended by over 600 guests from children to adults, professionals as well as social and corporate individuals. The event was ceremonial even to the streets, where drapes of red and black cloth and motifs adorned its surrounding area. The launch, which took place at the concourse of Bangsar Village II, was opened with the voice of “Radio Guru”, Patrick Teoh followed by a fashion presentation featuring over 30 children starting from the ages of 3 to 12 years old, who strutted down the runway in Peacocks London accompanied by a 6 year-old violinist.
Dato’ Nancy Yeoh, President and CEO of STYLO International believes that there is no better time to house an edition of the internationally renowned JRP curriculum and adapt to the Malaysian culture.
“This will no doubt be a new opportunity for Malaysians as there is much room for this; personality and personal development is indeed new here but totally necessary in this rapidly-developing and globally integrating Asian market”, she said.
“Courses will be offered to children, adults, aspiring models, corporates, CEOs, working executives, politicians and even royal families. We will feature an 8-module programme over 5 levels; which includes etiquette & protocol, social graces, image makeover, grooming and figure control.
