A man was found hanged from a window while his wife was found dead in an apartment in Jalan Siput Lala, Tanjung Tokong last night.

A man was found hanged from a window while his wife was found dead in an apartment in Jalan Siput Lala, Tanjung Tokong last night.

Penang Deputy CID chief ACP Mohd Nasir Salleh said the man was found hanging from a cloth tied to a window while the woman had slash marks in the neck.

The victims were identified as Ooi Chong Seng, 29, an entertainment centre supervisor and Yang Xiaohua,20s, a guest relation officer (GRO).

“Chinese national Yang Xiaohua was found lying on a bed in a room with  slash marks in the neck,” he told reporters when met at the scene last night.

Nasir said a friend of one of the victims had lodged a police report at Pulau Tikus police station at 8.20pm before a team rushed to the apartment.

Police had to break the door of the apartment on level three after finding the door locked from inside.

Inside, the police team found two bodies in the front room of the four-storey apartment.

“Initial investigation by pathologist found the incident happened 16 hours before one of their friends made a report after failing to contact the victim.”

Nasir said police also found their marriage certificate issued in Thailand and a kitchen knife, believed to be the murder weapon, at the scene.

“Initial investigation found that jealousy drove the man to strangle his wife to death before committing suicide.”

The two bodies were taken to Penang Hospital for autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Police appealed neighbours with information to contact investigating officer ASP Mohd Naim Asmawi at 019-5728844 or North-east District Police Headquarters at 04-2181822.

Meanwhile, father of the male victim, Ooi Kon Liong, 56, a fisherman from Teluk Kumbar said his eldest son was an independent person.

“Chong Seng rarely tell us about his life. We did not know that he was married to a Chinese national. I feel very sad for the loss,” he said.

Chong Seng who studied only up to Form Four moved out and rented the apartment in Tanjung Tokong five years ago.

“The last time I met Chong Seng was two weeks ago when he returned home to give monthly pocket money and had dinner with his mother and sister,” he added.
