Makers of ‘Kungfu Hustle’ to shoot new film in Johor

JOHOR BAHRU – The collaboration between Malaysian and China production companies will see them making an action movie titled “Beyond Life and Death” followed by another science fiction film.

A collaboration between Malaysian producers Months Studio Sdn Bhd with Golden Shield Television and Changsa LeFeng Culture Communication Co. Ltd (China production) will see them working together to make an action movie titled “Beyond Life and Death”.

Producer of Golden Shield Television Centre Peggy Lee Ji Wen said the RM237 million movie was a part of cultural entertainment project planned, in addition to producing dramas, programmes and various other activities.

Lee, who has produced such famous films as Kungfu Hustle and The Captain, said Beyond Life and Death was a pioneer project and 90 percent of the shooting will be made in the country, especially in Johor.

“The movie shoot that starts next year is seen as catalyst to the relationship and growth of both the country’s entertainment industries,” she told reporters after the Strategic Cooperation Ceremony between Malaysia-China Cultural Project Series in Forest City, today.

It will be followed by another science fiction film titled ‘Tianjin Death Explosion and Resurrection Day’ worth about RM400 million.

Meanwhile, Changsa LeFeng Culture Communication Chairman Shi Cai Wen said she was excited to collaborate with the Months Studio which she said had vast experience in the business.

“We are very impressed with Malaysia’s culture and landscape and it is our desire to incorporate this into film,” she said.

A deal between two production companies from Malaysia and China was signed today with an aim of producing RM3 billion worth of cultural entertainment projects over the next five years.

Tourism Malaysia southern region director Solehuddin Ahmad said the international cooperation would boost tourist arrivals into Malaysia, especially Johor.
