Baling floods victims have been placed at a temporary relief centre (PPS) after two villages were hit by flash floods in Baling last night.
The fifty eight victims from nineteen families have been relocated to a temporary shelter opened last night at Kampung Padang Hall.
According to Civil Defence Force (APM), district officer Capt Rasidah Kassim, APM received the report on floods at about 5 pm.
Subsequently, the APM personnels found that several houses already been flooded.
“We are still traumatised by the previous flooding. It’s better to leave our belongings behind to save ourselves,” said Zaharah Ismail to Harian Metro, last night.
Kampung Iboi, Baling floods again
The affected villages are Kampung Iboi and Kampung Badang in the Kupang sub-district.
She added that heavy rain that started at 2 pm continued for three hours, causing Sungai Kupang to overflow.
Following this water level surpassed the Bailey bridge in Kampung Iboi, forcing the police to order the bridge to be closed temporarily.
Meteorology Department issues a warning.
Meanwhile, Meteorology Department warned that thunderstorms and heavy rain would affect Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu and Perlis.
Heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong wind are also expected in Perak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor.
APM advised residents along the riverbank and low-lying areas to remain vigilant and leave their homes if the water level rises.
The earlier floods
On 4 July, Mukim Kupang and Mukim Bakai near Baling were severely affected by floods following a three-hour heavy rainfall.
Three family members, including a four-month pregnant woman, were reported missing after floods in Kampung Iboi, Kupang, whose house was swept away.
The rain started falling at about 4 pm on that day and, within hours, several villages were submerged under floodwater.
Waves of muddy water and fallen trees also swept down from nearby Gunung Inas, and more than 85 houses are believed to have been destroyed.
