Shop razed by fire at Jalan Ayer Itam, Penang

Fire razed a shop opposite Wisma Anak Yatim along Jalan Ayer Itam, George Town, Penang.

Several shops were also affected by the early morning fire.

Two volunteers of the fire rescue unit suffered minor injuries while putting out the fire.

However, no casualties were reported as of 8 am.

The Sun reported that the Penang fire and rescue department received a distress call on the incident at around 6.15 am.

Paya Terubong fire and rescue unit responded to the call.

The fire and rescue unit from Bukit Bendera, Jalan Perak, Kampong Pisang, Lebuh Bakau, and Mount Erskine provided assistance to the operation.

The percentage of destruction is about 80% said the department.
