Desa Baiduri apartment complex in Paya Terubong will soon get a facelift with a new coat of paint.
The repainting will take place at Block 1A and 1B.
Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow said the repainting works would cost RM 617,000.
Penang state tourism and creative economy committee chairperson Yeoh Soon Hin announced that he would bear 10 per cent of the cost, which amounts to RM 61,700.
Yeoh is also the Paya Terubong state assemblyperson.
The funding for the repainting project at Desa Baiduri comes from the Penang Maximum 80% Maintenance Fund (TPM80PP).
TPM80PP is a maintenance fund introduced by the Penang state government in 2013.
The state government undertakes maintenance of critical work such as repairing and upgrading elevators, water tanks, piping systems and roofing through this fund.
The state government pays 80% of the cost; meanwhile, the residents will pay the balance of 20%.
Chow also advised the residents that they might encounter uneasiness when entering their homes.
“I hope that all of you will be able to cooperate with the contractor when the works commence,” Chow said after visiting the apartment in Paya Terubong during his ‘Jelajah Penang programme’ in Bukit Gelugor today.
The repainting works commence in mid-September and will involve 700 units. The work will take three months to complete.
Chow also hoped that the repainting would enlighten the lives of the people there, leave a positive impact and encourage greater togetherness among the local community.
Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh accompanied Chow and later continued the tour to visit the established food bank in Jalan Tingkat Paya Terubong 2.
Several other Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillors also participated in the tour.
The Paya Terubong Village Community Management Council (MPKK) established the food bank centre, which started its operations in July this year.
Ramkarpal and Yeoh allocated RM40,000 to upgrade the centre.
The centre is open every Monday from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm.
Chow also took the opportunity to distribute basic necessities to a group of B40 residents in the constituency.
The recipients were overjoyed to have received the assistance.
