Perak local authority projects: Eight delayed, one abandoned

Eight project has been delayed and one abandoned in the Perak local authority project revealed the 2009 Auditor-General Report.

Auditor-General’s Report 2009 revealed that eight local authorities project has been delayed and one has been abandoned in Perak.

Taiping Zoo’s animal health complex, , Kuala Kangsar Municipal Council (MPPK) and Teluk Intan Municipal Council (MPTI) Complex said to be delayed between 144 and 629 days from completion. The delays also includes Changkat Jering rest and recreation area, Glutton Square hawker Complex, Padang Seri Iskandar and the Kuala Kangsar rest house.

The report said the delays were due to problems with land preparation, late issuing of variation orders, change in work scope and extra work.

According to the report, among others the delays resulted in cost overruns of RM168,152 for the Taiping Zoo project (from RM4.91 million to RM5.08 million); RM2.21 million for the MPTI project (RM5.54 million to RM7.75 million) while the cost of the MPPK project shot up from RM3.98 million to RM5.33 million.

The abandoned project was a RM6.7-million multipurpose halk for MPKK which was the responsibility of the Perak Public Works Department. The contract was awarded to Serata Johor Sdn Bhd and was only 63 per cent completed before being abandoned in May last year.
