SEGi University & Colleges has partnered with the Minderoo Foundation Australia and the Malaysia Association of Professional Early Childhood Educators (MAPECE) to launch the Thrive by Five – MyANAK Parenting App.
The app provides parents, caregivers, and children with over 100 tips and activities to promote healthy brain development in children up to five years old. SEGi University was the location of the recent launch event in Kota Damansara.
The app is a result of research that showed the quality of a child’s environment influences cognitive development, and positive interactions promote healthy brain development. At the same time, neglectful or abusive caregiving can lead to delays. The app features content that combines the latest parenting research with fun and easy-to-understand local activities in five key areas: Connect, Talk, Play, Healthy Home, and Community.
Available in English, Malay, Chinese, and Tamil, the app is free and accessible online and offline. It is also suitable for visual and auditory learners. MAPECE President Datin Dr Ng Soo Boon, a senior lecturer at SEGi University, said, “We are excited about the potential impact of this app on children’s lives and their families. This launch represents a critical milestone in our shared journey towards building stronger, healthier, and more resilient families.”
The app’s tips and activities have been validated and disseminated in Malaysia through MAPECE, making them a trusted and reliable resource for parents, caregivers, and adults with young children. The Thrive by Five – MyANAK Parenting App draws on research by the University of Sydney’s Brain and Mind Centre.
The app allows families to engage in activities that enhance their child’s brain development and social-emotional well-being. The app provides a unique content development programme for parents and caregivers, and its launch marks a significant step towards building stronger, healthier, and more resilient families.
