As announced by Jagdeep Singh Deo, the Chairman of the State Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee, the project has achieved an impressive completion rate of 86%, with the establishment of roads and lighting.

Since its inception in 2016, the Gurney Wharf project has been transforming reclaimed land off Gurney Drive into a vibrant public park that embraces the essence of Penang.

Recognizing the significance of Gurney Drive in the hearts and minds of Penangites and Malaysians, Tanjong Pinang Development (TPD) took the initiative to commission leading local and international architects to create a concept master plan for Gurney Wharf.

The Penang State Government has allocated 131 acres on the Gurney Drive foreshore to be developed into a public park known as Gurney Wharf, preserving the iconic status of the area.

With the utmost respect for its heritage, the Gurney Drive project aims to enhance the experience for both locals and tourists.

Jagdeep Singh Deo emphasized that Gurney Drive will always be respected and maintained as an iconic landmark. The Gurney Wharf project aims to improve the area further, ensuring that the 101.8-acre space becomes a cherished place for the people of Penang.

With a target opening date in July, the completion progress currently stands at 85.72%. Gurney Wharf will serve as a green lung and a new icon of Penang, addressing the need for accessible green spaces within the city.

Phase One of Gurney Wharf covers an area of 27.8 acres and promises an array of exciting facilities. The development includes a skate park, playground, vantage point, kiosks, and a captivating promenade.

With a commitment to Penang’s green agenda, the project aligns with the Penang2030 vision, which strives to create a “Family-Focused, Green and Smart State to Inspire the Nation.”

Gurney Wharf aims to provide a refreshing green lung for the city, offering families an ideal place to unwind and enjoy quality time together amidst the hot and humid weather, as well as greater access to the waterfront, allowing them to fully embrace the coastal beauty of the area.
