Penang Hill Challenge: An Eco-Tourism Adventure

The Penang Hill Heritage Forest Challenge 2023 (PHHFC2023) is set to captivate outdoor enthusiasts as participants gear up for an exhilarating 17-kilometre race through the scenic route of Penang Hill. This year’s event promises an extended course, showcasing the natural beauty of the hill and marking a significant milestone since the 2017 landslide incident that prompted adjustments to previous editions.

With the race just around the corner, Penang Hill Corporation (PHC) expressed its readiness and highlighted the substantial investments made by the Penang government to ensure the safety and stability of the hill slopes.

The PHHFC2023 aims to promote Penang as a renowned eco-tourism destination while fostering environmental awareness, heritage conservation, and a healthy lifestyle among participants.

Promoting Penang as an eco-tourism destination

Penang state youth and sports committee chairperson Soon Lip Chee underlined the objective of the Penang Hill Heritage Forest Challenge, which began in 2014.

The event aims to promote and enhance Penang’s reputation as a premier eco-tourism destination. By organizing this challenge, the authorities hope to instil awareness and love for the environment and heritage conservation among the participants.

Additionally, the event seeks to foster a culture of sports and a healthy lifestyle within the community. The PHC’s target for this edition is to attract 900 participants, including both Malaysians and international individuals eager to engage in this unique adventure.

The race’s longer route signifies the progress made since the 2017 landslide incident, as significant slope stabilization and road upgrading works have been carried out. Participants in the PHHFC2023 will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the breathtaking scenery and invigorating fresh air that Penang Hill has to offer.

Speaking at a media conference held at the Lower Station of Penang Hill, Datuk Cheok emphasized that the experience awaiting participants would be nothing short of fantastic.
