Ipoh, the capital city of Perak, is set to welcome an exciting addition to its tourism landscape – a state-of-the-art dinosaur park nestled within the enchanting Gunung Lang Recreation Park.
Scheduled for an anticipated opening in August next year, this new attraction promises to take visitors on a journey back in time, surrounded by life-sized static and animatronic prehistoric creatures. This ambitious project is part of the Visit Perak Year 2024 initiative, aiming to captivate both local residents and tourists alike.
Spearheaded by a collaboration between the Ipoh City Council (MBI) and Pebec Berhad, the park’s construction is well underway, with an innovative two-phase approach set to create an immersive experience that blends education and entertainment seamlessly.
Dinosaur Park: A jurassic marvel beckons
Ipoh Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin recently revealed that the upcoming dinosaur park at Gunung Lang Recreation Park marks a pioneering step towards enhancing Perak’s tourism potential. This exciting venture will showcase over 30 static and animatronic prehistoric creatures, carefully designed to replicate the awe-inspiring beings that once roamed the Earth.
Highlighting the collaborative nature of the project, Rumaizi emphasized the joint efforts of Ipoh City Council and Pebec Berhad. The park’s construction is divided into two distinct phases, each geared towards creating a comprehensive and captivating experience for visitors.
Phase 1 will involve a construction period of six to eight months, during which animatronic prehistoric creatures will be meticulously brought to life. Additionally, a dedicated learning centre will be established within the park’s premises, designed to accommodate up to 100 students at a time.
This centre aims to foster an educational environment where visitors can delve into the world of paleontology, habitats, and various aspects of dinosaurs. The comprehensive approach intends to ensure that visitors not only enjoy the thrill of encountering life-sized dinosaurs but also gain insights into their fascinating history.
Embarking on a Mesozoic journey
The momentum of the project is further exemplified through Phase 2, scheduled to commence within a year of Phase 1’s opening, subject to the public’s response. This phase aims to add even more dimensions to the visitor experience.
Envisioned as a hub of entertainment and learning, Phase 2 will introduce a 3D/4D cinema that promises to immerse visitors in an extraordinary audiovisual journey through prehistoric times. Additionally, a water playground will provide a dynamic and refreshing escape, making the park an attractive destination for families, students, and tourists seeking both knowledge and recreation.
With the park’s construction taking place across a sprawling 2.4 hectares of the Kinta Valley Geopark, the project aims to harmoniously blend entertainment with natural beauty.
