The city of Ipoh is on the path to becoming the best health city by 2025, thanks to the rapid development of several medical centres currently under construction. Ipoh Mayor, Datuk Rumaizi Baharin, revealed that five new medical facilities are being established in and around the city.
Some of these projects, like the National Neuro-Robotics and Cybernics Rehabilitation Centre in Meru Raya, the Seri Botani Hospital, and Sunway Medical Centre, are currently under construction.
Completed centres include the Perak Community Specialist Hospital (PCSH) and the Seri Botani Hospital, with the Tambun hospital expected to be finished soon. Additionally, the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) health complex in Bandar Meru Raya, the largest in Southeast Asia, and the Quill Medical Centre in Jalan Sultan Nazrin Shah are also under construction.
Health sector development
The investment in constructing these health centres around Ipoh has exceeded RM1 billion in the initial phase, forming part of the Ipoh City Council (MBI) strategic plan to advance the health sector. Rumaizi noted that these projects are scheduled for completion by the end of the following year, increasing the city’s bed capacity by 1,000.
This development not only aims to provide improved healthcare services but also anticipates the creation of more than 8,000 job opportunities in the healthcare sector. This significant job boost will encompass roles for doctors, nurses, pharmacists, administrative staff, and finance officers.
In light of these healthcare developments, Rumaizi outlined that the city would focus on promoting the healthcare sector alongside tourism. The new medical centres aim to make healthcare services more accessible and affordable for residents while offering them opportunities to increase their income.
Impacts on the community in Ipoh
The burgeoning healthcare sector in Ipoh has the potential to bring about substantial benefits for the community. The increased bed capacity and availability of advanced medical facilities will ensure that residents have improved access to healthcare services. This is particularly vital in enhancing the overall well-being of the city’s inhabitants.
The creation of over 8,000 healthcare-related job opportunities is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy. The influx of jobs spanning various healthcare professions and administrative roles will not only boost employment but also contribute to economic growth and stability.
Furthermore, the strategic development of the healthcare sector aligns with the broader goals of the city, promoting progress and prosperity. By offering both accessible healthcare services and employment opportunities, Ipoh can ensure a higher quality of life for its residents.
This strategic direction is part of Ipoh’s overarching vision for progress and prosperity. With the potential to enhance residents’ well-being and stimulate economic growth, these healthcare developments demonstrate a focused and promising future for the city.
