Touch ‘n Go launches Penang cashless mobility campaign

Touch ‘n Go campaign promotes cashless and seamless payments in Penang, advancing the state’s mission to go fully cashless by 2030.

Touch ‘n Go has initiated a 3-month campaign in Penang to encourage cashless payments and provide an integrated mobility experience encompassing tolls, transit, and parking. The campaign was officially launched at the Royale Chulan Hotel in Georgetown, with Chief Minister of Penang Chow Kon Yeow presiding over the ceremony.

Touch ‘n Go’s Chief Executive Officer, Praba Sangarajoo, highlighted the importance of a seamless and integrated mobility ecosystem in enhancing the quality of life for residents, driving economic growth, and promoting environmental sustainability.

Touch ‘n Go aims to contribute to Penang’s smart city agenda by introducing innovative products and solutions, incorporating RFID and NFC technology to create a cashless experience for Penangites.

The “Walao Eh Just In Penang” Roadshow

The “Walao Eh Just In Penang” roadshow will take place across various locations in Penang Island and Seberang Perai until December 2023. The roadshow aims to introduce Penangites to seamless mobility solutions, including Touch ‘n Go’s RFID and enhanced Touch ‘n Go card.

A specially equipped mobile truck will be stationed at key locations, offering special campaign offers on RFID tags and exclusive Touch ‘n Go bundle sets. Users will also enjoy instant rebates on purchases at the roadshow locations and can opt for complimentary RFID tag installation on their vehicles.

Touch ‘n Go has led the digital transformation of Malaysia’s progress towards a cashless society for more than 2 decades, with the Touch ‘n Go card playing a significant role as one of the initial drivers of cashless mobility.

This payment form factor has since expanded across other mobility verticals, creating an integrated platform within the nation’s growing and increasingly complex mobility ecosystem for people to conveniently pay for tolls, bus, ferry and rail transportation, and parking.

Touch ‘n Go’s cashless evolution

Touch ‘n Go has been at the forefront of Malaysia’s transition to a cashless society for over two decades. The Touch ‘n Go card has played a pivotal role in promoting cashless mobility, expanding into various verticals within the nation’s complex mobility ecosystem.

The introduction of Near-Field Communication (“NFC”) reload capabilities has allowed users to perform reloads via their mobile phones, enhancing convenience and accessibility.

In addition to the enhanced Touch ‘n Go card, the company has introduced special design cards and charms within its NFC-enabled product range, offering users personalization options. Transactions using these products are secured through the Touch ‘n Go eWallet.

Commenting on Touch ‘n Go’s presence in Penang Chow said, “The implementation of e-payment services, such as Touch ‘n Go RFID, is encouraged as it is convenient, efficient, and secure. With Touch ‘n Go embarking on this journey with us, we are confident of the ability to achieve the state’s mission to go 100 percent cashless by the year 2030.”

Touch ‘n Go’s cashless convenience extends to parking payments, with approximately 1,500 Touch ‘n Go-enabled parking sites nationwide, including 125 in Penang. Users can also opt for personal accident insurance/takaful, ParkInsure, through the Touch ‘n Go eWallet, ensuring peace of mind within the car park vicinity.

Touch ‘n Go’s RFID technology has gained strong adoption, enabling seamless toll and fuel payments. The campaign also included contributions to Jabatan Kebajikan Malaysia for digital inclusion and tech literacy initiatives and the Penang Heritage Trust for the preservation of heritage buildings. The initiative is part of Touch ‘n Go’s commitment to advancing digital inclusion and community support in Penang.

“Human talent plays a pivotal role in driving the smart city and digital agenda forward. I hope that our contribution to Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat in support of key initiatives to advance digital inclusion in Penang will bring about more progress and transformation, especially among the youth groups and underprivileged communities,” said Praba.
