Fraser’s Hill is set to make history by becoming the first highland region in Asia to host Canoe Polo events.

The move is part of a concerted effort led by Kamaruddin Ibrahim, the General Manager of Tourism Pahang, who envisions establishing Fraser’s Hill as a prominent name on the global Canoe Polo map.

Fraser’s Hill’s distinction lies in being the sole highland area in Malaysia with a suitable lake, offering a unique and natural advantage for this sporting endeavour.

The Canoe Polo event is poised to become an annual highlight, gaining a prominent spot in Pahang State’s tourism calendar, commencing from the upcoming year.

Kamaruddin Ibrahim has expressed his determination to make this a flagship event, stating, “Starting next year, we will identify suitable dates, making it one of Pahang State’s premier events.

We have already received inquiries and expressions of interest from external parties and teams regarding the Canoe Polo event at Fraser’s Hill.”

Raja Shahrul Azremel Raja Sahar, President of the Malaysian Canoe Association (MASCA), has hailed Fraser’s Hill’s climate as a significant advantage for athletes, enabling them to perform at their peak.

He has emphasised, “The cool temperature allows athletes to give their 100% because, in Malaysia, when we hold competitions in lakes, it’s typically scorching hot, leading to quick exhaustion. Here, with the temperature at 18 degrees Celsius, athletes can deliver their finest performances.”

The inaugural Fraser’s Hill Canoe Polo Competition in 2023 witnessed spirited competition, with teams from across the nation showcasing their prowess in this thrilling sport.
