In commemoration of the 23rd Anniversary Celebration of the City of Shah Alam on October 20, 2023, the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) officially unveiled the upgraded Community Recycling Centre in Section 2, Shah Alam.
This initiative is designed to promote recycling practices and foster environmental awareness among the local community.
MBSA empowering recycling practices
The Section 2 Recycling Centre has undergone improvements to make it more user-friendly and appealing to the community.
The aim is to encourage residents to incorporate recycling into their daily routines. The upgraded facility provides essential recycling resources and services, creating an accessible hub for residents to participate in eco-friendly practices.
In collaboration with Tetrapak Malaysia, MBSA has taken a step further by introducing a mini library within the Section 2 Recycling Centre. This library serves as a knowledge-sharing platform, with a focus on the local community.
The library facilitates book exchanges and learning opportunities, enhancing the value of the recycling centre as a community hub.
Sustainable food waste management
One of the innovative features of the Section 2 Recycling Centre is a designated area for food waste collection. MBSA is implementing the black soldier fly technique to process food waste organically.
This method utilises black soldier flies to break down food waste, transforming it into a high-protein food source suitable for livestock.
This not only reduces food waste at disposal sites but also promotes sustainable food waste management and resource conservation.
The MBSA’s commitment to raising awareness and participation in recycling practices among Shah Alam residents is a part of their ongoing efforts to promote environmental conservation.
The inauguration ceremony was led by Dr. Nor Fuad Bin Abdul Hamid, the Mayor of Shah Alam. Alongside him were council members and department directors of MBSA, demonstrating the council’s dedication to enhancing the city’s recycling initiatives.
The upgraded Community Recycling Centre in Section 2 stands as a testament to Shah Alam’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. Through these efforts, MBSA strives to empower residents to embrace recycling practices and contribute to a greener future for Shah Alam.
