The Content Forum, a leading advocate for responsible content practices, has unveiled a groundbreaking partnership with global entities to combat the harmful use of alcohol.
This collaborative effort sees the formation of the Global Standards Coalition, spearheaded by the International Alliance for Responsible Drinking (IARD), comprising major global beer, wine, and spirits producers.
Focused on mitigating harmful drinking, the coalition is committed to proactive measures, including preventing sales to minors, curbing marketing to underage individuals, and elevating industry standards.
The Content Forum aligns with the coalition’s objectives, reinforcing its commitment to shaping practical standards and safeguarding consumer interests.
Global Standards Coalition: A unified approach
The Global Standards Coalition, pioneered by IARD, represents a collective endeavour to address the challenges posed by harmful alcohol use on a global scale.
Comprising key stakeholders from the industry, the coalition is set to implement comprehensive measures to promote moderation and responsible drinking.
It will actively work towards preventing the sale of alcohol to underage or intoxicated individuals, restricting marketing and advertising to minors, and enhancing industry standards to reduce the harmful impact of alcohol consumption.
This initiative underscores a united commitment to fostering positive changes in societal drinking habits through collaboration between public and private entities.
Content Forum’s commitment and enhanced provisions
The Content Forum, led by CEO Mediha Mahmood, reiterates its dedication to this global initiative and highlights the enhanced provisions in the Content Code, revamped in 2022.
The updated code provides a comprehensive framework and guidelines for the advertising of intoxicating liquor, ensuring strict compliance with relevant legislation.
Advertisements are now required to feature individuals above 21, refrain from promoting excessive consumption, and avoid exploiting vulnerable populations.
The revised Code emphasises responsible drinking messages and introduces disclaimers indicating that advertisements are intended strictly for non-Muslims aged 21 and above.
It further specifies that individuals featured must be non-Muslims aged 25 and above, with advertisements prohibited from targeting Muslims and those below 21.
The Content Forum’s participation in the Global Standards Coalition signifies a local commitment to a global effort against harmful alcohol use.
Mediha emphasises the organisation’s adherence to the Content Code’s provisions, aligning with international standards.
Henry Ashworth, CEO and President of IARD, invites others to join this impactful initiative.
The Content Forum’s enhanced provisions in the Content Code and active engagement with stakeholders for supplementary guidelines showcase a concerted effort to ensure responsible practices in the industry.
The organisation remains steadfast in supporting initiatives that positively impact Malaysian society and contributing to a global movement promoting responsible alcohol consumption.
