Taylor’s University welcomes Professor Barry Winn as its new Vice-Chancellor and President, marking a significant development in the institution’s pursuit of academic excellence and global recognition.

Professor Winn, with nearly four decades of leadership experience in higher education, is poised to lead Taylor’s University towards new heights of success and innovation.

Dato’ Loy Teik Ngan, Taylor’s Education Group Executive Chairman, expressed enthusiasm about Professor Winn’s appointment, highlighting his extensive expertise.

“We are pleased to have Professor Winn as the new Vice-Chancellor and President of Taylor’s University.

His remarkable experience and visionary leadership perfectly resonate with our commitment to fostering excellence in education,” said Dato’ Loy Teik Ngan.

Professor Winn, during his tenure as Vice-Chancellor of Sohar University in Oman from 2015 to 2022, significantly expanded the student body to 7,000 and oversaw a dedicated academic staff of 180.

His previous roles include Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Development at the University of Bradford and Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Enterprise at the University of Hull.

In response to his vision for Taylor’s University, Professor Winn outlined his commitment to elevating the institution to global prominence.

“I will ensure we continue to aim high to allow Taylor’s to reach its full potential and become a global leader in progressive and innovative teaching, research, and knowledge transfer,” stated Professor Winn.

His focus for the next decade is to position Taylor’s as a world-leading institution capable of addressing contemporary challenges.

He emphasised the importance of creating a positive campus environment to make Taylor’s the preferred institution for a diverse community of students and staff.

Professor Winn’s contributions to research in optics and vision science are significant, reflected in his extensive list of publications that include over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and three book chapters.

He has also played a role in maintaining academic standards, serving as a reviewer for the Quality Assurance Agency (UK) and the Oman Academic Accreditation Authority (OAAA).

Additionally, he has served as an external examiner for undergraduate and postgraduate programs as well as PhDs at various universities globally.

Professor Barry Winn’s appointment as Vice-Chancellor and President of Taylor’s University signifies a new chapter in the institution’s journey towards academic excellence and global recognition.
