Zurich Malaysia has announced the expansion of the Urban Climate Resilience Program (UCRP) to two select communities in Kuala Lumpur – PPR Beringin and Kampung Pasir.
This initiative is launched in collaboration with Zurich Malaysia, Z Zurich Foundation, C40 Cities, and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
It aims to empower these communities to become more resilient against the impacts of climate change.
Zurich: Building sustainable and resilient communities
The program’s official launch event brought together all collaborating parties.
It introduced the core team from DBKL responsible for implementing UCRP initiatives in the chosen communities under the Department of Health and Environment (JKAS).
Zurich Malaysia’s Country CEO/Head, Junior Cho, expressed his enthusiasm.
He stated, “We are honoured to be part of this program and contribute to building sustainable, resilient communities that can withstand, recover from, and thrive in the face of climate-related disasters.”
He emphasised Zurich Malaysia’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities and driving positive change.
Collaborative efforts for climate adaptation
David Nash, Head of Adaptation to Climate Change at Z Zurich Foundation, highlighted the significance of collaborative efforts: “This journey to enhance local communities’ climate resilience emphasizes the critical role urban systems play in their well-being.
Together with partners and local authorities, we aim to develop practical solutions that support and protect communities facing climate challenges.”
UCRP will actively engage residents of PPR Beringin and Kampung Pasir, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
The program prioritises co-creation of innovative solutions and fosters community participation with the aim of building a more resilient and sustainable future for these communities.
The expansion of UCRP marks a significant step towards building climate-resilient communities in Kuala Lumpur.
Through collaboration and community engagement, UCRP aims to empower residents to better adapt to and address the challenges posed by climate change.
