The Pestabola Bandar Raya Ipoh Mayor’s Cup 2024 saw thrilling football action as young teams from across Malaysia competed in the Under-12 and Under-13 categories.
Held in conjunction with the 36th anniversary of Ipoh City, the tournament, organised by the Ipoh City Council (MBI), brought together 32 teams for an unforgettable showcase of football talent.
Penang’s Akademi Wira Muda triumphs at Ipoh
In a nail-biting finale, Penang’s Akademi Wira Muda team emerged victorious in the Under-12 category, defeating Anak Rimau Taiping with a 6-5 win on penalties after the match ended 1-1 in regular time.
Both teams displayed exceptional skill and determination, but a tense penalty shootout saw Akademi Wira Muda claim the title.
The champions of the Under-12 category were awarded RM3,000 in cash, medals, and a trophy.
Despite a valiant effort, the host team, MBI SC Dream, was eliminated in the quarter-finals, losing 3-4 on penalties to the eventual champions.
MBI SC Future, another host team, made it into the top 16.
Clr. Dato Mazlan bin Abd. Rahman, MBI’s Council Members WHIP, presented the challenge trophy to the winners.
SMK Mutiara Impian secures victory in under-13 category
Meanwhile, in the Under-13 category, Penang’s dominance continued as SMK Mutiara Impian, the Penang State Sports School, claimed victory by defeating Bukit Jalil Sports School 1-0.
The tightly contested match showcased the high level of competition, with SMK Mutiara Impian securing their win with a well-placed goal.
The Under-13 champions received RM2,000 in cash, medals, and a trophy for their impressive performance.
The Pestabola Bandar Raya Ipoh Mayor’s Cup 2024 has once again proven to be a platform for showcasing young football talent from across Malaysia.
With plans to expand the tournament to an international level next year, MBI hopes to make Ipoh a hub for youth football in the region.
With the success of this year’s tournament, the Pestabola Bandar Raya Ipoh Mayor’s Cup is set to grow as a key event in Malaysia’s youth football calendar, promoting sportsmanship and talent development in the heart of Ipoh.
