The inaugural AR FEST KL has arrived, transforming 10 iconic locations across Downtown Kuala Lumpur into vibrant digital playgrounds.
From 30 August to 30 November 2024, the city will come alive with over 30 Augmented Reality (AR) activations, inviting visitors to experience the city’s rich heritage and contemporary art through a unique fusion of technology and creativity.
The festival offers a blend of four immersive programmes—StreetARt, ARca, ARtworks, and CheritAR—designed to showcase Kuala Lumpur’s diverse culture through digital murals, monumental AR sculptures, and interactive AI historians.
Discover interactive art with StreetARt and ARca
At AR FEST KL, StreetARt reimagines murals around the city, blending traditional street art with AR technology.
Visitors can now explore works from renowned artists like Cloakwork, Co2, Kenji Chai, and the late graffiti legend Orkibal, whose mural at REXKL stands as a tribute to his creative legacy.
The AR overlays transform these murals into interactive canvases, offering deeper stories and energetic digital elements that bring the art to life.
The ARca programme provides an adventure across the city with larger-than-life digital sculptures.
From the iconic Wau Bulan to nostalgic childhood symbols like the Kancil car, these AR creations celebrate Malaysia’s heritage.
Set against the backdrop of The Starhill, visitors are invited to interact with Malaysia’s cultural symbols through bold, colourful digital sculptures that merge tradition with modern technology.
Art meets technology at ARtworks and CheritAR
The festival continues to push the boundaries of creativity with ARtworks, in collaboration with the National Art Gallery.
Five iconic Malaysian masterpieces, including Abdul Latiff Mohidin’s “Pago-Pago” and Chuah Thean Teng’s “Malaysian Life,” are brought into the digital age with AR elements, allowing audiences to experience these timeless works in a new dimension.
CheritAR, another highlight of the festival, reshapes how the city’s history is told.
Visitors to the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, National Textile Museum, and Victoria Fountain can engage with AI-powered historians who animate Kuala Lumpur’s rich narratives.
Supported by Think City and DBKL, this programme transforms heritage walks into dynamic, interactive journeys, blending history with cutting-edge technology.
AR FEST KL promises an unforgettable journey, where tradition meets technology, and art merges with innovation.
Running until 30 November, the festival offers a unique way to explore Kuala Lumpur’s culture, art, and history.
Whether you’re admiring digital murals, interacting with monumental sculptures, or engaging with AI historians, AR FEST KL invites you to experience the city through a new lens.
