SMCV celebrates 5th anniversary

Sunway Medical Centre Velocity (SMCV) marked its 5th anniversary with a lively three-day celebration titled “Hi-5 for Health” from September 19 to 21, 2024. The event was aimed at commemorating the hospital’s milestone with both Malaysian and international patients it has served over the years, while promoting health and wellness within the community.

Opening ceremony and CEO’s message

The main event kicked off on September 20 with an opening ceremony attended by SMCV’s management, patients, and media representatives. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SMCV, Ms. Susan Cheow, expressed her gratitude to the attendees and reflected on the hospital’s journey since its establishment.

“We are immensely thankful to our patients, both local and international, our partners, and the Malaysian community for their continued trust and support over the years. Our mission to provide quality healthcare remains steadfast, and we are dedicated to this purpose for many years ahead,” said Ms. Cheow.

She further highlighted the opening of the hospital’s new building, Tower A, earlier this year and reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to embracing new innovations, expanding services, and maintaining a high standard of care.

“Our 5th anniversary is a celebration of our patients and community. Their trust motivates us in everything we do. Most importantly, we are dedicated to being a place where our patients feel supported, cared for, and valued,” she added.

The celebration also included a symbolic cake-cutting ceremony, where a specially baked cake from one of SMCV‘s patients added a personal and touching element to the event, symbolizing the strong bond between the hospital and the community.

Interactive health and wellness activities

The “Hi-5 for Health” event was packed with engaging activities for both children and adults. Young attendees were treated to fun-filled activities like face painting, kiddy animal rides, and hand hygiene activities, all designed to promote healthy habits from an early age. Adults, on the other hand, had the unique opportunity to step into the world of surgery through an innovative virtual reality (VR) experience. This activity allowed them to simulate a surgeon’s role and gain a firsthand understanding of surgical procedures.

In addition to the interactive sessions, attendees had access to health and wellness pop-up booths featuring products and services from well-known brands such as Sunway Sanctuary, Claire Organics, Farm Fresh, and Yakult. These booths promoted a holistic approach to well-being, offering attendees a variety of options to explore in their wellness journey.

As part of the anniversary festivities, SMCV introduced special promotions, offering discounts of up to 20% on various health screening and wellness packages. Looking back on its five-year journey, SMCV has had many memorable milestones, including the birth of its first baby, affectionately named “Velo,” in 2019. Though Velo and the family have since relocated abroad, the story remains a treasured part of the hospital’s history, symbolizing the numerous lives touched by the hospital.
