The Graff for Nation event, taking place from 25th to 29th October 2024 at the historic Kuah Old Hospital in Langkawi, is set to showcase a vibrant fusion of graffiti and Malaysian cultural identity.
Organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC), the National Art Gallery Malaysia, and other key collaborators, this dynamic event brings together 42 local and international graffiti artists to celebrate creativity, collaboration, and innovation.
The event builds on the success of the Kuah Graffiti Festival (KGF) X Meeting of Styles, transforming the Kuah Old Hospital into a hub of artistic expression.
Graff for Nation revolves around the theme “Letter Painting,” focusing on graffiti art inspired by Malaysian and regional literary and artistic heritage.
International and local talent unite in Graff for Nation
Featuring artists from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, China, Spain, Germany, Russia, the UK, Canada, Belgium, Turkey, and India, Graff for Nation is a global event with a distinctly Malaysian flavour.
These talented individuals will create letter-based graffiti artworks that convey the essence of regional masterpieces, reflecting Malaysia’s rich cultural landscape.
According to Amerrudin Ahmad, Director-General of the National Art Gallery Malaysia, “This initiative is in line with Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s call to encourage the exploration of Malaysia’s literary heritage.
It’s not just about elevating culture, but also about nurturing the nation’s younger generations to appreciate their roots.”
With graffiti art as the core attraction, Graff for Nation also highlights street culture elements like streetwear, custom toy art, and the thriving coffee scene.
This vibrant mix of creativity aims to boost collaboration between artists and the local community, engaging graphic designers, baristas, and entrepreneurs in a broader cultural dialogue.
