Penang Hill funicular listed among World’s Most Beautiful

Penang Hill Railway has earned a prestigious spot on Travel + Leisure’s list of the “Most Beautiful Funicular Railways Around The World.” This accolade places Malaysia alongside renowned destinations such as Switzerland’s Stoosbahn, Hong Kong’s Peak Tram, and Paris’ Montmartre Funicular. Initially a two-section railway, it was revamped in 2010 into a modern, single-section system. This 4th generation funicular train, operational since April 2011, provides a direct journey from the Lower Station in Air Itam to the Upper Station atop Penang Hill. Spanning a length of 1.99 kilometers, it holds the title of the longest funicular track in Asia.
