Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) has cemented its reputation as a global blockchain leader, with its Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Club (APUBCC) securing first place at ETHGlobal Taipei 2025.
The team, comprising Teh Jun Heng, Lee Yi En, Lee Xin Rou, Htet Aung Hlaing, and Tan Wei Hup, won the ENS Infrastructure category with their innovative ENSpin tool, earning USD$2,500 (RM11,240.63).
APU’s victory highlights its role in nurturing Web3 talent, fostering community pride in Malaysia’s tech prowess.
ENSpin enhances the Ethereum Name Service (ENS), ensuring reliable access to blockchain data, showcasing APU’s commitment to cutting-edge solutions that resonate globally.
APU shines with ENSpin
APU’s team triumphed at ETHGlobal Taipei, a 36-hour hackathon hosting 600 participants from 30 countries.
Among 115 teams, ENSpin stood out by “pinning” files on the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS), addressing data impermanence in ENS.
This long-tail “APU blockchain innovation success” strengthens digital assets like avatars and metadata.
Teh Jun Heng, team lead, described the intense experience.
“We were challenged to think beyond limits,” he said. “Clear communication and smart delegation were key.”
The team navigated time constraints and complex integrations, delivering a robust prototype under pressure.
Professor Ir EUR ING Dr Vinesh Thiruchelvam, APU’s Chief Innovation & Enterprise Officer, praised the ecosystem.
“ENSpin reflects APU’s vibrant collaborations and workshops,” he said. “Our students lead Web3 innovation globally.”
His leadership has grown APUBCC into the world’s largest tertiary blockchain community, with 1,600 members.
The win builds on APU’s 2024 success, when another team excelled with CrossYield. ENSpin’s focus on ENS reliability earned accolades, showcasing Malaysia’s growing blockchain expertise.
The hackathon offered hands-on experience with ENS and IPFS, broadening the team’s skills.
Jun Heng noted, “Engaging with developers gave us insights into Web3’s forefront.”
The collaborative environment sharpened their problem-solving and teamwork.
