Citizen journalism is back. And this time, it comes with the most powerful set of tools any journalist — professional or citizen — has ever had access to.

CJ.my, Malaysia’s original citizen journalism platform, is relaunching its training programme after a long break. The mission remains the same: teach ordinary Malaysians to find stories, verify facts, and publish news that matters to their communities. But the toolkit has changed completely.

Artificial intelligence has transformed what a single person with a smartphone can do. Research that once took days now takes minutes. Video that once required a production crew can now be generated from a single prompt. Stories that once needed a newsroom can now be published to the world from your kitchen table.

We are here to show you exactly how.

Two workshops. Built for 2026.

Citizen Journalism & AI is a two-day intensive that takes you from understanding what makes a story worth telling, to publishing your first verified, well-written piece on cj.my — using AI tools like NotebookLM, Perplexity, and Claude at every step of the way.

Video Making & AI is a two-day hands-on workshop covering smartphone filmmaking, professional editing, and AI video generation using tools like Kling AI, Runway ML, CapCut AI, and Descript — the complete modern video workflow in one weekend.

This is not theory. Every session ends with you having produced something real.

Why now?

Malaysia is entering election season. Stories are breaking in every neighbourhood, every workplace, every community. Mainstream media cannot cover everything. Misinformation is spreading faster than ever. Citizen journalists — trained, ethical, and equipped — have never been more important.

cj.my has been here since the beginning. We trained the first generation of Malaysian citizen journalists. We watched many of them go on to careers at The Star, The Sun, and major publications across the country. Some are still publishing with us today — voluntarily, because they believe in what we built together.

Now we are training the next generation. With better tools than we ever had before.
