Kampung Buah Pala folks were grinning from ear to ear today after receiving keys to their new homes from Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng. Their new homes are compensation for being evicted from Kampung Buah Pala, for a property project.

The 24 families who were evicted in 2009 to pave the way for a high-rise condominium project received their “gifts” ahead of Deepavali, which falls on Oct 26.

Fifteen of the families are Indians, while the remaining nine are Malay, with some having lived on the 2.6ha land for 50 to 100 years.
