Christine LeongMore than twenty dengue infested areas has been identified with some 1279 dengue cases has been reported for the period from January to June 2013 said Health Department officer.
The officer, Noreffaziela Binti Miskan also said that when there is more than one case reported in a certain area the health department will conduct an ultra-low volume (ULV) application around 4.oo am to 5.00 am in the morning, and fogging with malathion goliath from 6.00 pm to 7.00 pm in the evening.
A 56 year old hairdresser Liow Chee Yong said that her two children aged 21 and 24 was infected by dengue but could not be admitted to the Sultan Ismail Hospital because their platelets count was above 70. She said the hospital will only admit cases whose platelets counts are 40 and below.
Liow finally admitted her children to a private hospital instead of waiting for the general hospital and also said that there were many cases of dengue in Masai, Desa Jaya and Johor Jaya.
Meanwhile, sales promoter Doreen Tay said she did not even know that she had dengue because she had no symptoms except for fever. She admitted herself into a private hospital when her platelets count went down to 55. According to Doreen, her doctor told her condition is not serious unless the platelets count dropped to 20.
Doreen also said that she heard of many cases in Taman Perling, Taman Pelangi and Taman Johor Jaya and in her friend’s brother and family were admitted to a private hospital for dengue and their hospital bills came to RM18,000.00
In the meantime, health department vehicle was seen along Jalan Rosmerah, Taman Johor Jaya. According to the health officer there were two new cases of dengue along Jalan Rosmerah 4/10 and the health department had came to fog the area.
