A motor mechanic died here last night after a group of men attacked him allegedly to seek revenge for an earlier incident in Tasek Mutiara.
South Seberang Prai Deputy OCPD, DSP Sharifudin Abdullah said, the victim,S. Vijinran, 24, had just finished drinking with his friend at about 11.45 pm, when he was confronted by four men.
One of the men apparently accused the victim of assaulting his cousin in an incident yesterday evening which was denied by Vijinran, he said.
Enraged by the denial, the group of parang wielding men, attacked the victim, who tried to get away but was assaulted severely, he said.
Vijinran succumbed to severe head injuries and died during treatment at Sungai Bakap Hospital.
Police have detained and remanded four men between the ages of 20 and 25 to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
