Sheraton Kuching, the newest addition to the Sheraton Hotel chain, is set to open in Kuching, Sarawak, in the second quarter of this year. The hotel will boast over 300 rooms, with a prime location along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, near the Kuching Waterfront.

Marriott Bonvoy owns the brand and is a premium hotel chain with only two other locations in Malaysia.

Designed for style and luxury, Sheraton Kuching will offer an infinity pool on its rooftop with a stunning view of the city and sunset. The hotel’s interior will include an executive lounge, bar, Chinese and Japanese restaurants, a Presidential Suite Bedroom, and a massive ballroom. Blu Water Studio Sdn Bhd is responsible for the hotel’s design.

Sheraton Kuching’s unique and modern facade has already garnered attention on social media, creating a buzz despite no official announcement regarding its opening date. With Hilton Hotel & Resort and Pullman Kuching already in the city, the addition of Sheraton Kuching is expected to attract many guests and contribute to the city’s economic growth.

Rivero Delgado Ramos, Marriott International area vice-president for Singapore, Malaysia and Maldives, stated last year that Marriott focuses on domestic tourism due to the pandemic’s impact. As a result, the domestic market has seen double-digit growth. Marriott has also seen an improvement in its domestic presence, with its Miri, Mulu, and Kota Kinabalu markets getting busier among its loyalty members.

Marriott plans to open several other locations, including the Courtyard by Marriott Setia Alam, Selangor, the Courtyard by Marriott Melaka, and the Lone Pine Penang, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel. The Renaissance Kuala Lumpur, currently undergoing renovation and refurbishment, will feature the Renaissance and Four Points by Sheraton Kuala Lumpur brands when relaunched next year.
