Canon launches “One Canon One Tree” Campaign

Canon Marketing Malaysia has proudly kicked off its annual “One Canon One Tree” campaign in Sungai Tembus, Penang, with the objective of preserving Malaysia’s natural beauty and supporting the government’s goal of becoming a carbon-neutral nation by 2050.

In collaboration with Shorebirds Peninsular Malaysia Project (SPMP) and Unit Nelayan Sungai Tembus, Canon planted 200 mangrove trees to promote ecological conservation and biodiversity while commemorating World Environment Day – #BeatPlasticPollution.

Canon preserving biodiversity and coastal shores

Canon’s partnership with SPMP and Unit Nelayan Sungai Tembus aims to contribute to the preservation of biodiversity, bird conservation, and eco-tourism initiatives.

Mangrove trees play a critical role in protecting coastal shores, mitigating climate change, preserving marine ecosystems, and providing habitats for numerous species. By planting mangroves in Sungai Tembus, Canon aims to create a sustainable and thriving environment for both wildlife and communities.

Sungai Tembus holds significant importance for the biodiversity of the Penaga forest in Penang.

This mangrove ecosystem not only supports the livelihoods of local fishermen but also serves as a haven for migratory birds, attracting over 100 species between March and June.

The presence of various bird species in the wetlands helps regulate the population of pests, safeguarding the rice farmers’ livelihoods.

The river is part of the Important Bird and Biodiversity Area (IBA) of Teluk Air Tawar-Kuala Muda, emphasizing the need to preserve the wetlands and establish them as a permanent reserved forest.

Commitment to environmental stewardship

As a champion of environmental stewardship, Canon recognizes the significance of the Sungai Tembus mangrove forest and actively collaborates with local organizations to conserve the ecosystem.

A total of 36 dedicated Canon staff members participated in the event, engaging in tree planting and refreshing the paint of Unit Nelayan’s community hall. Through the “One Canon One Tree” initiative,

Canon is committed to promoting a sustainable society and environmental stewardship, aligning with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and contributing to a better world for future generations.

Canon has a strong focus on sustainable business operations and environmental conservation. Under the umbrella message of “Imaging for Good,” the company has planted over 8,000 trees, including those designated as a food bank for rehabilitated Tapirs at the Sungai Dusun Wildlife Conservation Centre in Selangor.

The commitment to sustainability extends to Canon’s Penang Branch, with its Head, Daren Tan, emphasizing the importance of combating climate change and safeguarding the local natural heritage.

Following the successful launch in Sungai Tembus, Canon’s “One Canon One Tree” campaign will continue its journey across Malaysia, with tree-planting programs planned in Johor Bahru, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Kuantan, and the Klang Valley.
