UOW Malaysia School of Engineering orchestrated a triumphant World Cleanup Day event on September 20, 2023, underscoring the significance of community engagement and collaboration in environmental conservation.
211 UOW volunteers tackle 4.5 tons of waste
A total of 211 volunteers, comprising students, faculty, staff, and local community members, participated in the event.
Their combined dedication led to the removal of an impressive 4450 kg of waste from various locations surrounding the Glenmarie Campus and nearby industrial areas.
Quoting the success of the cleanup, the School of Engineering stated, “The turnout of 211 volunteers and the removal of 4450 kg of waste reflect the commitment and enthusiasm of our community towards environmental stewardship.”
MBSA join hands for cleaner Glenmarie
Integral to the success of World Cleanup Day 2023 was the collaborative effort of industry partners, including Vita Health, Unipac, Glow Trading, and the Municipal Council of Shah Alam (MBSA).
These partners played a pivotal role by providing logistical support, waste disposal facilities, and necessary equipment.
“The generous support from our industry partners and MBSA was instrumental in ensuring the success of our cleanup initiative. Their collaborative efforts showcased the impact achievable through collective environmental responsibility,” highlighted the School of Engineering.
The waste collected, prominently featuring plastics, electronics waste, papers, clothes, tires, and various items, not only contributed to a cleaner environment but also underscored the comprehensive impact of community-driven cleanup initiatives.
UOW Malaysia School of Engineering expressed heartfelt appreciation to all volunteers, industry partners, and MBSA for their invaluable contributions.
Through this collaborative endeavour, the event not only demonstrated the power of collective action in fostering a cleaner community but also served as a poignant reminder of the importance of such partnerships in driving impactful environmental initiatives.
