Fashion Revolution Week 2024: A decade of embracing sustainable fashion activism

Fashion Revolution Week 2024 ignites Malaysia’s passion for sustainable fashion, with workshops, community events, and global activism.

Fashion Revolution Week 2024 is on the horizon, marking a decade of global activism aimed at reshaping the fashion industry into a force for social and environmental justice. With its theme, ‘How to be a Fashion Revolutionary,’ this year’s campaign invites individuals worldwide to reflect on their role in driving change within the fashion landscape.

Melissa Tan, the Country Coordinator of Fashion Revolution Malaysia, emphasized the significance of individual actions in fostering a sustainable and ethical fashion industry. “This year’s theme invites us to step into our potential to be a force for change,” she stated, highlighting the pivotal role each person plays in the movement.

In Malaysia, Fashion Revolution Week will kick off with a day of action on Saturday, 20th April 2024, hosted in conjunction with Green Day Out at Gaya HQ in Petaling Jaya. The event promises a range of activities aimed at promoting slow and circular fashion, including Mend In Public Day, clothes swaps, community circles, and workshops. Additionally, the event will mark the launch of the Malaysian intake for the Sustainable Fashion and the SDG Goals course, offering attendees an opportunity to deepen their understanding of sustainable fashion practices.

Mend In Public Day

One of the highlights of Fashion Revolution Week is the global Mend In Public Day, taking place on the same date. Malaysians are encouraged to participate in collective action by repairing their worn but beloved clothing items, sparking conversations on sustainable consumption practices.

Furthermore, Fashion Revolution Week offers various avenues for participation, including workshops led by Fashion Revolutionaries aimed at equipping individuals with communication, community building, advocacy, and education skills. These workshops provide a platform for attendees to connect with like-minded individuals and gain inspiration for future initiatives.

For those unable to attend in person, Fashion Revolution Week offers opportunities to engage online through the #WeAreFashionRevolution campaign. Participants are encouraged to share their stories, reflections, and hopes for the future of fashion activism, fostering a sense of community and solidarity within the movement.
